Oh Scrap!

Oh Scrap! We are talking about scraps this week! You know you have them, they are overflowing and your sure that they are multiplying when you’re not looking. And if your like me, I just can’t seem to part with them whether they be barley small enough to get a punch out of or as big an almost full sheet of paper. But with a bit of organization and planning you can make great use of those scraps!

I organize my scraps in totes and 12x12 page protectors.

You can find these totes at most discount stores, they are cheap & they work great. I also have seen people organize their scraps in expandable folders or in hanging files which are also is a great ideas.

Because I have so many scraps, I organize them by color. I have 1- 12x12 page protector for each color in cardstock and in pattern paper and one extra protector for “multi” colors (for when I just can’t decide on what color it belongs to!)

One way to help keep your scraps tidy is to trim your scraps into squares/rectangles before filing them away. Because odd shaped and jagged edges have a tendency to catch onto other papers.

Also try to get in the habit of putting your scraps away at the end of a project. Or at least dedicate a spot to accumulate your scraps like a bin and when its full (OK overflowing) spend some time getting them put away-because when your scraps are organized you will get the most out of them and actually USE them!

And lastly I keep my scraps right next to my desk so they are at my fingertips when I need them. This way I opt to reach for my scrap bin before cutting into a new sheet of paper.

Scraps are great for making cards, photo mats, journaling blocks and so much more! I challenged myself to make a LO out of scraps only (minus the background paper). And what would Inspiration Tuesday be without a project to inspire? So lets get started!

Supplies:
Trimmer, scissors, adhesive, & pencil, 1 sheet of red cardstock, heart template (bazzil pre-cut cardstock heart used-or just try free handing a heart), sticker letters (American Crafts Thickers), chipboard brackets (Maya Road), White acrylic paint, & lots of scraps in a pink/red color theme.

First lightly trace your heart onto your background cardstock

After selecting several papers out of your scrap stash start tearing them into small squares. pay special attention to leave white core on all the sides.

When you think you have torn enough squares, tear a few more just for good measure :0)

Start gluing your torn squares to around the outline of your heart

Mat your photo using additional scraps. It is important to ground your photo with a busy background.

Do some journaling and trim to strips (unfortunately when using a printer its is difficult to use scraps)

Adhere your sticker letters, love title (more scraps from a Reminiscent paper) hand cut heart (out of scraps of course), painted chipboard brackets, journal strips and photo. And there you go, LO created out of scraps! Doesn’t it feel great to use up some of that great paper?

Here’s another LO using the same heart/scraps concept. In this LO I created 2 pages and added more journaling.

Now its up to you to take the scraps challenge! Go get those scraps organized and use them! And if you have a great tip on how to organize & use scraps. Post a comment and share it with us!

Tweet Heart Card

Wow! How the week just flies by! I'm having so much fun bringing Inspirtaion Tuesday to you, and I hope you are enjoying it just as much! Don't forget about last weeks I.T. drawing, the winners will be announced here tomorrow. (if you haven't enterd the drawing make sure to check out last weeks I.T. project for details!)

This week we are making this darling shaped circle card! Thanks to my girlfriends over at The Stamped group for inspiering ME to create this card. (waving!)

Supplies: You will need a trimmer with scoring blade, scissors, adhesive, pencil, 2 Pattern Papers (Making Memories Noteworthy line here) Pink, Teal, Red,& Brown cardstock (Bazzil of course!) Stamp (Bird byAutumn Leaves) Ink (chesnut Roan, Rouge, & Azurite ColorBox chalk ink), Paper Flower (Prima Forever Flowers), White Gel Pen (UniBal Signo), Scallop Scissors (All Night Media), Photo Corner Punch (EK Sucess Paper Shapers), & Ribbon.

Lets Get Started!
Cut Pink cardstock 8 x 5.5

Score your Cardstoak in half (4.25") & fold.

Using a Circle template (plate, lid, bowl, whatever you have around) Pencil a light line from the edge to the fold. (you'll have a sightly more than 1/2 of a circle)
(yes my kids got ahold of my template..Ugh!)

Using Scallop scissors carefuly follow your pencil line & cut. if you don't have scallop scissors you can use a template and hand cut or use a premade scallop circle card.

Ink your stamp in Brown Ink

Stamp your image just slightly off centerd to the right and top of a 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 teal square.

Ink the edges of your square.

Cut a strip 1" out of stripe pattern paper (making sure your stripe runs vertically). At about 3 3/4" tear strip, leaving a rough, white core edge.

Ink Strip Edges with Brown Ink

Punch Photo Corner out of Polka-dot Pattern Paper (make sure to line up the dots before punching to get a straight pattern)

Ink Edges of scalloped Card

Adhere Stamped block slightly off centerd underneath strip & add photo corner to bottom left

On a 1/2" strip hand write "tweet" using white gel pen, leaving extra space between each letter

Cut each letter out into blocks. Making them different height & widths

Hand draw a heart on the backside of your red Cardstock...Yes I said HAND DRAW...you can do it!
Cut out & ink edges with Brown
*tip!* Dont use a whole new sheet! Find a scrap!

Adhere title blocks and heart to edge of striped paper strip

You'll need about 13" of ribbon. lace ribbon through the inside fold of the card

Tie a knot at the front of the card about 3/4 of the way up, and add a pink paper flower underneath knot. Trim tales evenly.

And lastly-make sure to sign the back of your card!

And there you have it! A darling card that can be used for just about any occasion. Of course with Valentines just around the corner it would be a great card for any Tweet Heart in your life.
Other ideas for different titles are "so tweet", & "Happy Bird-Day"

Crazy Things We Do In the Name of Scrapbooking

I was visiting with a friend and fellow scrapper the other day, and she was telling me about some adorable doggie themed paper she had seen at a local scrapbook store. This friend doesn't have a dog, has no plans on getting a dog, but LOVED the paper and wanted it to create a scrapbook layout using it. She said her mind started thinking of ways to justify the purchase ... "I could take my daughter to Build A Bear have her make a stuffed dog, take cute pictures and then I could use that paper!!!" Ahhhhh! It's a sickness I tell you! The things we scrapbookers will think of just to satisfy our scrapping addiction.

A few years ago another friend told me that she made her daughter go out and play in the rain, just so she could use some cute rain themed embellishments she had.

I, myself, wil admit that many a cute outfit has been purchased just because it reminds me of some scrapbook product I've seen. Ohhh - our poor children, friends, and family. What they have to put up with! Who among us hasn't had a family member whine or complain when we request just one more picture, or have side tracked a fun activity by making sure we have it all documented on film or megapixels.

I'm curious - what crazy thing have you done in the name of scrapbooking? Put it in the comments or send us an e-mail to info@iceescape.net.
